“After lazy reliance on phoney gravitas and blundering with its first serious stab at levity with Aquaman, DC has found a comic torch-bearer of pure heart to illuminate the path of righteousness ahead.”
- Matthew Norman, London Evening Standard

“For a long, glorious stretch, Shazam! plays like the anti-Nolan antidote it is.”
- Joshua Rothkopf, Time Out

“In context and considering the movie monstrosities that have preceded it, Shazam! is irrepressibly fresh and wholesome, and ultimately suggests a new and exciting future for the stars of the DC Extended Universe. Up, up and away!”
- Kevin Maher, The Times

“The wrinkle that makes Shazam! different from other superheroes is that he’s literally a kid’s wish-fulfilment fantasy.”
- Kim Newman, Empire

A superhero film with heart and laughs. Foster kid Billy Batson is fleeing school bullies when he is ushered in by a wizard, who endows him with superpowers whenever he says the magic word ‘Shazam!’ At first, becoming an adult superhero with the power to fly, punch through walls and buy beer is everything Billy could have wanted, but soon he is being pursued by Dr Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong). With hints of Big, Zachary Levi (TV’s Chuck) as Shazam makes great comedy of the body-swap with a teenage boy.
